Instead of getting shoes, is it possible to buy platforms that will clip into there the shoes will go?

You will need a pair of cleats to attach these.
Why do you want to do this? If you never want to ride with cleats, a better option is to replace the pedals with platform pedals.
How about a pedal that allows you to ride clipped in or not. I used a pair of these for a long time before switching to standard SPDs.
